On September 10, 1861, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Mary Smith was discovered in the 41st Ohio Infantry when she gave 'an unmistakable twist to the dishcloth in wringing it out that no man could ever successfully counterfeit.' This quilt is made of 20 dishrag blocks (otherwise recognized as a unit found in the Kansas Troubles block) that finish at 4" x 4".
